Tryouts for the Northeast Texas Raptors football team start Saturday at the practice field, 4100 Old Clarksville Road in Paris.
“We are seeking talented players from around the region to join us for an amazing season,” said team owner Amanda Willows. “There is no cost to try out — all you need is a photo ID.”
Willows said staff and players have a newfound reason to be excited this season as the team has just been accepted into the Minor Professional Football League.
“It’s a tough league to get into,” Willows said. “We are so excited and proud to be part of it.”
Willows said the team had to be vetted by MPFL commissioners, who approved them to join for the 2018 season.
The N.E. Texas Raptors pride themselves on providing an opportunity for athletes in Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma to pursue a football career beyond high school or college.
“We hope that it opens doors to auditions for professional leagues,” Willows said. “We want to give these talented young men the exposure they deserve.”
The first home game will be March 10 against the Dallas Vikings at Patriot Stadium.
The NETX Raptors team is owned by David and Amanda Willows. The coaching staff consists of Kevin Houghton, Josh McDonald, Joe Cantu, William King and Brandon Fulbright. For those unable to attend Saturday’s tryouts, another day is scheduled for Jan. 20 at 2 p.m.
