Five Pleasant Grove Middle School students are being investigated for sexually assaulting a classmate on a bus trip home from Paris.
According to Texarkana Police Public Information Officer Shawn Vaughn, the assault is believed to have happened to a 13-year-old on the way back to Pleasant Grove after a basketball game in Paris on Nov. 30.
Vaughn said the investigation began Dec. 1 after the victim’s mother reported the incident. Felony warrants were originally issued for five students ranging in ages 13-14. While officers were working with the students’ parents to arrange for the students to turn themselves in, new information was revealed, Vaughn said.
“Due to the seriousness of the allegations and the necessity to be fair to all involved, the Texarkana Police Department has made the decision to delay the service of the warrants until the detectives have the opportunity to evaluate the new information,” Vaughn said. “The warrants will remain unserved until that review is completed.”
Vaughn said allegations against the five students range from sexual assault to indecency with a child.
