Tuesday evening, at 8:20, Hunt County Sheriff’s Deputies, DPS Troopers, along with Tawakoni Fire, Cash Rescue and Hunt County EMS, responded to reports of a three-vehicle crash on Highway 276 and Caddo Lane.
Arriving units found three pickup trucks involved. One pickup was on fire, while another pickup had a driver trapped.
According to the trooper’s initial reports, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling westbound on 276 when it crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking a Ford F-150. A second Ford F-150 pulling a trailer, rear-ended the first F-150.
The driver of the first F-150 was pronounced deceased at the scene. That driver has been identified as 82-year-old Meredith K. Epperson, of West Tawakoni.
The other drivers were transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Quinlan, with one being flown to a trauma center by Air Evac 67.
Trooper Kyle Bradford said the crash is still being investigated, and there is no further information at this time.
Almost three hours later, at the scene of the early crash, three more vehicles wrecked out. Tawakoni Firefighters were already on scene and had two HCEMS units transport those victims.
