Jimmy Oren Sloan, 79, of Talco passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at Talco Cemetery under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home.
Jim was born to Mary and Frank Sloan in Kilgore, Texas on November 30, 1939. After graduating from Talco High School, he went into the U.S. Army. Jim spent ten years in the Army National Guard, ran track at Paris Junior College, and completed his education at East Texas State University. He found his true calling, educating and coaching young people. Jim found his school home with the Celina Bobcats and after fifteen years retired with the orange and white.
Jim had a kind heart and a gentle spirit. He spent his retirement around Talco rescuing homeless dogs and cats and watching his grandsons play sports and fish.
Jim is survived by his wife Donna; his sons Brook and Travis; his daughter Robin and husband Brandon Herber; and grandsons Brandt and Cale; granddaughters Lindsey, Lauren, Lacey, Londyn, Sara, Samantha, Sindey; and great-grandchildren Connor, Oliver, and Leyton.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Frank Sloan; and his infant son Mark Oren Sloan.
