Hunt County Commissioners approved an agreement this week to install a next generation weather radar system on the campus of Texas A & M University – Commerce. The radar system should be up and running in 2018.
The commissioners voted in October of 2016 and awarded a $478,000 contract to Ridgeline Instruments Incorporated to head the project up. North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is offering a grant that would pay for 75 percent of the cost of the project and the county’s 25 percent part would come from in-kind services.
The Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere Radar Project will provide more accurate readings during times of severe weather. The radar will be place on top of Whitley Hall.
