A Hunt County corrections officer was killed after his pickup truck collided with an 18-wheeler this morning.
Billy Attaway, 33, was traveling southbound in his pickup truck when his truck swerved into northbound traffic and hit an 18-wheeler around 8:45 a.m.
“It happened on Highway 34 about seven miles north of Terrell at mile-marker 304,” said Department of Public Safety Sergeant Kyle Bradford. “We’re still investigating the reason, but believe the slick roads may have been the cause.”
Bradford said Attaway was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified. Bradford said the driver of the 18-wheeler, 52-year-old Bryan Hogan, was uninjured.
“This is, without a doubt, a very dark day for the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and the family of Billy Attaway,” said Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks. “I don’t have the words to express my grief. I am not going to speculate on the accident or the family’s wishes at this time, but I want them to know we are here for them.”
Traffic was delayed for more than four hours. The scene was cleared around 3 p.m.
