Hackers reportedly gained access to nearly 4,000 patient records at Hunt Regional.
The Hunt Memorial Hospital District has notified the nearly 4,000 patients, whose records may have been exposed during the cyberattack.
The data breach resulted in hackers having access to patients’ medical records, including social security numbers and other protected health information.
Those who were impacted by the data breach are able to receive identity theft protection. Meanwhile, Hunt is working with the FBI to investigate the incident.
“Though a variety of administrative, physical and technical security measures were in place prior to the incident, Hunt has also retained the services of cybersecurity professionals to further investigate this incident and aid Hunt in implementing additional safeguards to strengthen data security within Hunt’s computer environment,” the hospital said in a July 12 statement.
