GISD Swap and Drop proposal passes by slim margin

The Greenville Independent School District’s Swap and Drop tax proposal passed during Tuesday night’s election by a slim margin.

With a total of 4,152 for and 3,776 against, residents support the tax restructuring measure. This means a one-cent drop in tax rates for the district.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and all GISD employees, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to you for voting yes,” a statement issued from the district read. “Yes to great teaching and learning for our students. Yes to raises for teachers and staff who have committed their careers to the field of education. Yes to a bright future for Greenville. The support we feel from our community is incredible. We thank you for the opportunity to serve this special community and its children. They are our future.”
