Commerce, former police chief sued by former Miss Black Texas Carmen Ponder

-

The city of Commerce and its former police chief, Kerry Crews, are being sued by former Miss Black Texas Carmen Ponder over her 2017 arrest.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in the Northern Texas – Dallas district late last week.

Court documents reveal Ponder alleges she was unlawfully arrested and her Fourth Amendment rights were violated on that day in 2017. She goes on to say the city failed to properly train, supervise, screen, discipline, transfer, counsel or otherwise control their officers.

She is seeking $300,000 from the city and $150,000 from Crews.
