Today, Uber will make Greenville, Texas, an official city serviced by the rideshare company.

Uber first started offering services in August 2017 to the Greenville area, and continues to gain momentum.

A press conference and ribbon cutting are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, 2713 Stonewall St.

Uber representatives are in town today to announce their local rideshare program. State Representative Dan Flynn is also expected to attend the event.

Uber began on a snowy Paris France evening in 2008, Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp had trouble hailing a cab. So they came up with a simple idea—tap a button, get a ride.

What started as an app to request premium black cars in a few metropolitan areas is now changing the logistical fabric of cities around the world. Whether it’s a ride, a sandwich, or a package – Uber uses technology to give people what they want, when they want it.

Today Uber services 633 cities worldwide with an estimated net worth of $70 billion. And now the corporation can officially add Greenville, Texas,  to the list.
