For the first time ever, streaming customers eclipsed cable customers last year, according to the Motion Picture Association of America’s annual report.
The report shows there were more subscriptions to online video services at 613.3 million than there were for cable subscriptions at 556 million in 2018.
Not only that, but consumers are spending more on streaming movies at home than they are on going to the theaters. According to the report, people spent $42.6 billion on streaming and video-on-demand services compared to $41.1 billion in theaters.
However, the report also indicates that a lot of people with streaming services do still also have cable. Implying that the number of cord-cutters isn’t as high as one may think.
