Life abundantly… That’s here and now, in the present! That’s joy for today!
You see, so often we get this idea that God’s promises are something to be attained or strived for. And then, at the end of this life, at the end of my struggle I will receive the prize. We see Paul refer to this race and the endurance and assume that only when we collapse from exhaustion over the finish line will we get the medal.
But Jesus died, so that I might live! Not tomorrow, but today! With His Spirit in me, I am already more than a conqueror. I am already victorious! “No longer to be subject to a yoke of slavery.” I may not always see it, but that doesn’t make it any less true.
Many times as Christians, we walk around mopey and depressed and then when asked, tell people we’re ‘blessed’. If that’s blessed, I don’t want it! That’s why Paul said he could “count it all joy!” Because he knew he had grabbed ahold of the victory! Even in the middle of the hurt, pain and struggle, he knew that the joy of the Lord was present in Him.
Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” Don’t live for a hope in tomorrow, when God has life for you today. Long for His presence, and you’ll find life abundantly. Set your mind on things above and see that… now’s your time!
