As of today more than 80 flyers representing the Ku Klux Klan have been retrieved from citizens in Hunt County by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and Wolfe City Police Department.
The flyers were first reported December 29 to the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office when citizens began calling saying they had found KKK propaganda on their doorsteps.
Hunt County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially responded and determined that there was no immediate threat to life or property. The flyers had been sealed inside a plastic bag and weighted down with a rock inside the bag and appeared to have been tossed at random on to residential driveways throughout Wolfe City.
The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office is currently assisting Police Chief Matt Martin of the Wolfe City police department with the investigation and will continue to do so as needed. As of today more than 80 of the flyers have been recovered and citizens are asked if they find one of these flyers or anything similar to either contact the Wolfe City Police Department or the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office to file a report.
“This kind of activity is very unsettling to everyone and it was evident in the number of houses we responded to Saturday night. I want to assure the public that we are working with Chief Martin and conducting a thorough investigation,” said Sheriff Randy Meeks.
