On May 7, 2019, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office was
notified of a disturbance involving shots fired in the 1200 block of Deer Lane in Quinlan,
Texas.

Deputies were initially advised the caller stated that she had been assaulted by a family
member and the 9-1-1 call was disconnected. A second 9-1-1 call came in from a second
person who stated that one person had been shot.

Initially, responding deputies were not clear on whether the suspect had shot himself or another family member. Multiple law enforcement officers arrived on scene and located several people at the location – one of which had been shot. It was determined that the suspect was still on scene and was subsequently detained for investigative purposes.

Deputies immediately began life-saving measures on the victim, which included the use of an Automated External Defibrillator until American Medical Response made the scene.

The efforts were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division arrived on scene and as a result of
the investigation, Clifton Crabtree, 24, from Quinlan, Texas, was taken into custody on
one count of murder and was transported to the Hunt County Detention Center.

Justice of the Peace Wayne Money at arraignment issued a $1 million cash or surety
bond.

Sheriff Randy Meeks stated, “This was a horrible and violent crime and my thoughts and
prayers are with the family. I want to commend all the officers and paramedics for all
their efforts to try and save the victim.”
