On Jan. 3, Hunt County Sheriff deputies conducted a traffic stop near I-30 near the 110-mile marker when they encountered a fugitive from justice wanted out of California.
Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said the vehicle had been reported as possibly being occupied by a homicide suspect from California. The driver was identified as 48-year-old Roshawn L. Knight who resides in Los Angeles, California.
“Upon further investigation, a murder warrant for Ms. Knight was confirmed and she was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Hunt County Detention Center without incident,” Meeks said. “Ms. Knight had a five-year-old child in the vehicle and the child was turned over to the Department of Family and Protective Services.
Meeks said authorities in Los Angeles, California, were notified and Knight is awaiting extradition back to the proper authorities.
“This is one more example of excellent teamwork with all law enforcement agencies involved,” Meeks said. “Any law enforcement officer that makes a traffic stop never knows what or who they will encounter and must always be alert. Thankfully, this violent subject was taken off the streets before anything else happened and I am also grateful that we were able to get the child to a safe environment.”
No details about the murder Knight is wanted for have been released.
