Police identified 28-year-old Daniel Dailey, whose last known address is Allen, Texas, and 18-year-old Jacqorion “Jay” Ellison, who’s listed address is Greenville, Texas, after they confessed they attempted to rob 21-year-old Zachary McCullar.
According to Durant Police, both suspects admitted that they met McCullar at the Econo Lodge in Durant, to purchase marijuana. Upon meeting, Ellison and Dailey pulled a firearm on McCullar, who tried to fight back. McCullar was shot one time in the head. Witnesses said the suspects drove away in a white pickup.
That pickup was spotted within the hour at the Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma. With assistance from Choctaw Tribal Police Officers, Durant Police and Bryan County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to detain the suspects. Upon interviews, the suspects admitted their actions. Both suspects are being held on robbery and murder charges.
Suspect Jacqorion Ellison, who goes by the name Jay “Scoopa” Ellison on Facebook, represents himself as a Crip gang member. Both Ellison and Dailey have pictures of themselves posing with Crip “gang” signs. According to the 2018 Texas DPS Gang Threat assessment, there are multiple sects of Crip gangs in region 1, which encompasses all of North Texas, including Hunt, Fannin, and Grayson counties.
